Low-priced Purchases

There are many possibilities for buying products "cheaply" or at a reduced rate. Prices are often reduced for a short period and certain goods are sold as special offers ("Sonderangebot"). Many shops advertise these special offers. It is also common to bargain for a reduction in price on certain goods. This is often the case when the purchase price is high, for instance on cars, furniture or electrical goods. If products have certain blemishes then you can also ask for a reduction in price. The price of groceries tends to be non-negotiable. Prices are also reduced in closing-down sales when shops go out of business or move. The excess goods are sold off at low prices.

Factory Outlet Centres

... are centres that offer high-priced designer goods at lower costs.

Second Hand Shops

... sell second hand goods such as clothes, often at very reasonable prices and in good condition.

Gebrauchtwaren-Geschäfte

... are also second hand stores, but concentrate mainly on household goods, furniture and appliances.

Flea Markets and Junk Markets

Anything from rare collector's items to "kitchen sinks" can be found at these markets. Prices are normally always negotiable.

Door-to-Door Sales

Goods are also sometimes sold by door-to-door-salesmen ("Haustürgeschäft"). It is often advisable to be cautious of such offers, especially if contracts need to be signed.
